General Surgery Residency
The Department of Surgery is committed to training the next generation of surgical leaders, with superb technical skills, sound clinical judgement and a desire to innovate. From a resident’s perspective, the clinical opportunities are limitless. Cedars-Sinai is one of the largest hospitals in California. We serve over 12 million people (in the surrounding community), as well as countless patients from other states and countries who travel here for specialty care. Over 30,000 operations are performed annually. Cedars-Sinai has nationally recognized programs in transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery, surgical oncology and gastrointestinal surgery. Since our faculty helped to develop minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery, laparoscopic approaches have permeated nearly every surgical discipline. We are now doing the same with robotic surgery, while building a training program to teach outside surgeons to do complex robotic procedures. Our graduates are well prepared to pursue any career objective.
Curriculum

Rotations
Clinical rotations over the course of the program include: cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, surgical intensive care, surgical oncology, transplant, organ transplant and trauma surgery.
Didactics
General surgery training covers a broad range of formats including grand rounds, conferences, courses, labs and special lectures.

Big Sibling/Little Sibling
This internal peer mentorship program pairs junior residents and/or interns with senior residents to help guide and coach them with tips for navigating residency, pursuing a subspecialty, and just going through life. We hope to nurture long-term mentoring relationships that brings even more collegiality and support for our program.
