Mechanical Support and Thoracic Transplantation Fellowship
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is offering a one year clinical fellowship in Thoracic Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support. The Smidt Heart Institute treats over 300 heart failure patients and evaluates approximately 250 patients with end-stage heart disease for heart transplantation on a yearly basis. The Heart Transplant program ranks among the top five institutions in the United States. The Mechanical Circulatory Support service implants over 40 assist devices per year including pulsatile and axial flow devices. The Lung Transplant Program evaluates approximately 100 new patients for lung transplantation yearly.
The clinical fellow will be responsible for the preoperative evaluation, the implantation, and postoperative care of the patients with end-stage heart and lung disease. Furthermore, the fellow will participate in follow-up clinics, biopsies, long term management of the immunosuppression, pathology rounds and procuring the organs. Funding will be available for participation in the annual ISHLT meeting and presentation of clinical research. The candidates must be Board eligible or certified from American Board of Thoracic Surgery and be eligible for licensure in the State of California.
